What is the Big Idea @ Balliol
We believe that science is an incredibly important and exciting part of the curriculum. It promotes rigor, methodical working and an understanding of the world around us. It is a pathway to so many opportunities and a way to open young minds to possibilities. We focus on creating young scientists rather than simply teaching science.
In 2016 we were awarded Primary Science Quality Mark which recognises Balliol as a school which delivers dynamic and quality teaching of science at all stages.
At Balliol, Science is a rich and exciting experience for pupils. We harness a range of strategies but focus heavily on practical experiments and enquiry. We have a highly progressive model running across the school, ensuring quality coverage and a high level of challenge.
Each Year, classes chose 2 Science Ambassadors to work across the school to promote and develop Science.
We engage proactively with agencies who can provide scientific experiences and learning at a more specialist level, for example:
- Newcastle University
- North Tyneside Learning Trust
- Longbenton High School
- Newcastle Centre For Life
