Wed 22 Apr 2015Some of the children from Breakfast Club had a very exciting start to the day watching as one of our chicks emerged from its egg. We were all astonished by how quickly it managed to break free and plonk onto the floor of the incubator. It already has a little friend who hatched overnight. Both are doing really well. -

Dukeshouse Wood Adventure
Sun 29 Mar 2015Phew! 33 very tired, happy people returned from a fabulous weekend at Dukeshouse Wood near Hexham today. Thirty excited children were accompanied by Mrs Downes, Mrs Whitehead and Mr Longstaff. All the children were brave, resilient, smart and worked really collaboratively. The staff saw so many new talents and skills and were , at times, "blown away" by the determination and tenacity of Balliol children. Every single child did something amazing. We saw some astonishing climbing with children balancing on beams over 50 feet high, incredible problem solving and a healthy competitive spirit. Hmmm - need to start planning for next year! -

Brilliant morning thanks to 1st and 5th Fusiliers
Fri 27 Feb 2015This is the second year that the men from the Fusiliers have visited Balliol. The Fusiliers are Infantry troops who are actively involved in current conflicts. Panther class were very lucky as they had some football training with the super fit troops! Mr Longstaff assures me that our children held their own!
It was such a lovely day that the soldiers performed for the whole school in our yard. They play fife and drums at numerous state occasions. We hope our neighbours enjoyed it! The children absolutely loved the atmosphere and drama of their playing. It was a really special experience. The men then spent time in every class, letting the children play instruments and try on some of their uniform.
A huge Balliol thank you to the 1st and 5th Fusiliers.

Great Performance
Thu 26 Feb 2015Children and staff really enjoyed a performance by Firehorse Productions. The message of the whole performance was an anti-bullying one. It was really interactive and the children thoroughly enjoyed it but were left with a really strong moral message. It reinforces our zero tolerance message and our proactive approach to prevent bullying. We do not want any child to be frightened or anxious at Balliol
